Crawl Space Solutions
In Birdsnest, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting those problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
