Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting those problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
