Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to level sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down those problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
