Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
