Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
