Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
