Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing these issues. We can offer a repair product intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
