Crawl Space Solutions
In Belle Haven, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
