Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting those issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
