Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting those problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
