Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
