Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at spotting these issues. We can offer a repair solution designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
