Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
