Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
